Mesabi East senior Anna Johnson swam to first place in two individual events, the 100-yard butterfly and the 200 freestyle, while anchoring the 400 freestyle relay to the top spot at the Section 7A high school girls swimming preliminaries Thursday night at Lincoln Park Middle School.
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton sophomore Makayla Suominen was fastest in the 50 and 100 freestyles and swam the third leg on CEC’s first-place 200 medley relay and the anchor leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Diving prelims are at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the diving and swimming finals at 3 p.m.

Blue tops Green
Sylvie Deters of Cloquet and Jess Peterson of Duluth East scored goals to lead Team Blue over Team Green 2-0 in the second annual Essentia Health Girls Senior All-Star Game on Thursday night at Ordean Stadium.
Deters tallied in the 12th minute and Peterson, who was named MVP, netted her goal in the 54th.
Goalkeepers Sammy Klander of Mesabi East Area and Alexa Gothard of Hibbing combined for nine saves for the winning side. Rachel Gore of Duluth East and Anna Thickens of Duluth Marshall stopped seven shots combined.
