Joe Janke’s 5-yard rushing touchdown with 25 seconds remaining lifted South Ridge over Mountain Iron-Buhl 23-20 in a Nine-Man high school football game Thursday night in Culver.
Janke, one of the state’s leaders in rushing yardage, finished with 33 carries for 171 of the Panthers’ 331 yards. Janke has gained 664 yards on the ground this season.
South Ridge (3-0) took its first lead late in the third quarter on a 16-yard run from Matt Clark. But the Rangers responded (2-1) when Joe Buffetta scored from 2 yards out early in the fourth to push MIB in front 20-15.
Jericho Peterson had 137 rushing yards and two TDs for the Rangers.
Thursday’s game originally was scheduled for tonight, but a lack of available officials forced the schools to bump it up a night.

Emma Markovich’s 29 assists and Lizzy Bowman’s 13 kills led the way for Grand Rapids.
Proctor 3, Duluth Marshall 1 Sam Pogatchnik totaled 21 kills, 16 assists and seven blocks as the visiting Rails won the LSC match 25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 25-21.
Proctor’s Payton Rodberg, a freshman, contributed 19 kills and 10 blocks, and fellow freshman Gabby Jauhola finished with 20 assists. Katelyn Marunich also had 10 blocks.
