Prep report: Rebels edge rival Eskomos

Moose Lake-Willow River's Jeremiah Weidendorf broke a tie score with a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to lift the Rebels past rival Esko 22-15 in a high school football game Friday night at Esko.

Weidendorf finished with 100 yards on 14 carries, while Trent Juhl gained 138 yards on 28 carries, including a touchdown.

Mason Vinje completed 15 of 27 passes for 153 yards. Dylan Vinje, meanwhile, had seven receptions for 90 yards for the Eskomos (0-4).

The Lumberjacks (3-1) kicked off homecoming with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, including a 38-yarder from Andre Peters, but were shut out the rest of the night by the Vikings (2-2), who outgained their hosts 294-230 in total yards in a rematch of last fall's Section 7AAAA final.

North Branch lost two fumbles, but Cloquet coughed up the ball three times and turned it over a fourth with a late-game interception. The second-ranked Lumberjacks had their regular-season winning streak end at 11 games.

The Spartans snapped a two-game losing streak by winning the Big Rivers Conference game at Dorais Field in Chippewa Falls.

Jarrett Gronski scored all four touchdowns for the Spartans (4-2 overall, 2-2 Big Rivers). The Cardinals fall to 3-3 and 1-3.

After a scoreless first half, Gronski scored the first of his three 2-yard TDs midway through the third quarter. He scored his second TD with 6:32 remaining, then intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards to the Cardinal 5. He scored two plays later for a 19-7 lead and then capped the scoring on a 66-yard run.
