Alex Oakes surpassed 2,000 career assists in Cloquetās 3-1 high school volleyball victory over host Greenway on Thursday night.
Oakes, in her sixth season on the Lumberjacks varsity - sheās started since eighth grade - had 17 assists as Cloquet handed the Raiders their first defeat, 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17. The senior setter ended the night with 2,006.
Kassidy Steen and Anna Hansmeyer each had 12 kills in the nonconference match, and Sami Westendorf totaled 22 assists and 18 digs.
Seri Geisler and Jordan Ranta tallied 17 kills and 31 assists, respectively, for Greenway, which had won its first nine matches.

Mikayla Olesiakās 35 assists and Justice Jankeās 16 kills helped the visiting Panthers slip past the Eskomos 25-18, 23-25, 25-12, 23-25, 15-9.

girls win Golden Bear Invite
Reed Melicher covered 5 kilometers in 16 minutes, 59.55 seconds, to win the boys race at the Golden Bear Invitational in Eveleth. Melicher, who was followed by closely by second-place finisher Ryan Kero of Hermantown (17:00.17), helped Eveleth-Gilbert hold off Proctor and claim the team title.
In the girls race, Annika Voss of Proctor was first with a 4K time of 15:51.18, while Ely won the team competition.
Vossā teammate, Hannah Bettendorf, was third in 16:05.71, three seconds behind International Fallsā Lexi Erickson, who produced a second-place time of 16:02.59.
