Four Northwestern wrestlers won regional titles and three others came in second to lead the Tigers to the team title in a Wisconsin Division 2 regional Saturday in Maple.
Northwestern totaled 195 points, 43 ahead of runner-up Rice Lake.
Senior Markus Brown remained unbeaten by pinning Barron’s Cole Hanson in 52 seconds in the 132-pound final; sophomore Tanner Kaufman decisioned Barron’s Mason Ecklor 11-6 in the 152-pound final; senior Braden Trautt beat Spooner/Webster’s Brody Jepsen 11-4 in the 160-pound final; and freshman Ian Smith pinned Barron’s Austin Bladow in 5 minutes, 31 seconds in the 182-pound championship match.
The Tigers’ Ethan Meller (113), Camren Benesch (120) and Mark Jarman (145) all were runners-up in their weight classes.
Northwestern advances to next Saturday’s sectional meet.

Superior placed fifth in the Division 1 regional at Eau Claire Memorial, however Connor Krueger took first at 113 pounds, beating Hudson’s A.J. Henn 3-1.
Three other Spartans took second: Wyatt Johnson at 120, losing 9-3 to Chippewa Falls’ David Hughes in the final; Tucker Johnson at 126, beating Eau Claire North’s Carson Duerkop by forfeit in the true-second match; and Henry Huber at 138, pinning New Richmond’s Tyler Harris in 1:38 in the true-second match.
BOYS HOCKEY
Superior 5, Baldwin-Woodville 3
Mason Stenberg scored two second-period goals and added two assists to lead the Spartans to the nonconference win at Wessman Arena.
Goaltender Jamin Durfee made 20 saves.
GIRLS HOCKEY
North Shore 5, Int’l Falls 1
Livia Hoff netted a hat trick as the Storm raced past the Broncos in Silver Bay.
CEC 4, Pine City Area 1
Dana Jones’ third-period hat trick carried the host Lumberjacks to the nonconference victory in their season opener.
CEC had been quarantining due to COVID-19 for the first two weeks of the winter prep season.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Hermantown 72, Virginia 54
Blake Schmitz scored 20 points and Ryan Zastrow added 19 to lift the Hawks to the nonconference home win.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Grand Rapids 67, Superior 63
Taryn Hamling made five 3-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 25 points in the Thunderhawks’ Lake Superior Conference win at Superior.
