Three Hibbing wrestlers and a pair from Grand Rapids won individual weight-class titles at the Section 7AA high school wrestling meet Saturday at Lindstrom, Minn.
Hibbing’s A.J. Bethea improved to 36-2 by earning a 7-4 decision over Mora’s Drew Van Vleet in the 126-pound final; teammate Morgan Fuenffinger stayed unbeaten at 38-0 with an 11-2 majority decision over Chisago Lakes’ Aaron Sistrunk at 132 pounds; and 170-pound Devante Jelle pinned Mora’s Tyler Tober in the final.
For Grand Rapids, Kyle Lundberg pinned Princeton’s Kyle Boeke at 106 pounds, while Thunderhawks teammate Branden Frisby decisioned Princeton’s Preston Burch 10-4 in the 160-pound final. Grand Rapids’ Garrett Britten earned a spot at the Class AA state meet this week by finishing second at 182 pounds; teammate Kellen Schauer did as well at 113 pounds; Cloquet-Esko-Carlton’s Conner Denman did likewise at 152 pounds and Lumberjacks teammate Tate Olson was second at 120.
Superior’s Ross Kennelly advanced to the Wisconsin state meet with a second-place finish at Saturday’s Division 1 sectional tournament at D.C. Everest in Schofield. Kennelly wrestles at 182 pounds.
Northwestern’s Donald Pooler and Calen Kirkpatrick both advanced to state in Division 2 with their performances at Saturday’s Osceola sectional.
Pooler finished in second place at 152 pounds and Kirkpatrick was third at 120 pounds.
The state tournament is Thursday through Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Girls hockey
Warroad 3, Proctor-Hermantown 1
Kaitlyn Kotlowski, Mariah Gardner and Madison Oelkers each had a power-play goal and an assist to lead the Warriors past the Mirage in the Class A state tournament third-place game at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Emma Brunelle stopped 24 shots, including 14 in the first period for Warroad (25-4-1).
Sophie McGovern scored the lone goal for the Mirage (20-9-1), while senior goaltender Amy Lemanager made 19 saves.
McGovern was named to the Class A all-tournament team and awarded the Herb Brooks Award.
