Prep report: Mountain Iron-Buhl girls open season with win over Duluth East

Mary Burke and Chelsea Mason scored 20 points apiece to help the Mountain Iron-Buhl girls basketball team open its season by doubling up Duluth East 70-35 on Monday night in Duluth.
The Rangers, ranked second in Class A and coming off a third-place finish at last year’s state tournament, opened up a 41-20 lead at halftime and never looked back. Mason collected nine of her points from the 3-point line.
Annie Reichhoff led the Greyhounds (0-2) with nine points.
MIB plays at Mesabi East on Thursday before a highly anticipated showdown against Class A No. 1 and defending state champ Goodhue on Saturday at the Breakdown Classic in Hopkins.
