Charlotte Overbye scored only 12 points, but it was enough to make the Mountain Iron-Buhl senior the 10th high school girls basketball player from the Northland to surpass 2,000 career points in the Rangers' 62-35 victory over visiting Deer River in a
season-opening game Tuesday night.
Overbye finished the game with 2,009 career points, just 16 shy of eighth place among Northeastern Minnesota players.

Senior Risa Valentini scored 44 points and had eight steals, five rebounds and five assists to lead the host Bluestreaks to the nonconference victory.

The host Thunderhawks overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to beat the Hawks in a nonconference game.

Kenzie Rathe scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds as the host Lumberjacks rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to win the nonconference season opener.

Griffin Swanson netted a hat trick and Jeremy Lopez had two of his three goals in a seven-goal second period as the visiting Rails cruised to a season-opening victory.
Patrick Everson and Tyler Pionk each had two goals for Proctor.

Nathan Tromp outdueled Glenn Walls in the nets as the Bluejackets won the Iron Range Conference game at home.
Tromp stopped 25 of 27 shots for Hibbing-Chisholm (1-2), while Walls made 39 saves for the Broncos (0-1).
