Prep report: Marshall, Proctor girls spring soccer upsets

The teams will meet in a section semifinal on Saturday.

Both Duluth Marshall and Proctor advanced Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, from Section 7A girls soccer quarterfinals in which they were the lower seeds.

Marshall defeated Lakes International Language Academy 3-2 in Forest Lake, Minnesota. Maddie Maas put the Hilltoppers (5-11) up with a goal in the 10th minute before Neysa Scullard-Bender scored a second-half brace to put the seventh seed up 3-0 in the 65th minute.

LILA scored twice in the last 10 minutes but couldn't equalize.

Fianne Makela made four saves for Marshall.

Sixth-seeded Proctor knocked off Spectrum 2-1 on Wednesday in Elk River, Minnesota and will host the Hilltoppers in a section semifinal Saturday at noon at Proctor.


Esko 2, Two Harbors 0

Top-seeded Esko held off an upset bid to advance Wednesday.

Maya Emanuel put the Eskomos (9-7) up a goal in the 15th minute, but they couldn't put the Agates (3-12) away until Britta Koski's 74th minute insurance goal.

Orie Randall made three saves for the clean sheet.

Esko will host fourth-seeded Legacy Christian in a semifinal on Saturday.
