Duluth East senior Keaton Long finished second, and the Greyhounds placed fifth as a team in the Class AAAA 5-kilometer high school boys cross country race at the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday at Stones Throw Golf Course in Milaca, Minn.
Long was timed in 16 minutes, 22.1 seconds, less than 13 seconds behind winner Kevin Dado of Totino-Grace.
Cloquet also finished fifth in the Class AAA meet and Lumberjacks sophomore Isaac Boedigheimer finished fourth in the class with a time of 16:32.6. Matthew Lundstrom of Detroit Lakes won in 15:56.9.
Proctor finished seventh in the Class AA meet, followed by Esko in 13th, Moose Lake-Willow River in 15th, Virginia in 17th and Cook County-Two Harbors 19th. The Rails’ Jacob Welch finished 15th in 17:27.3. The race was won by Isaac Overmyer of Park Rapids Area in 16:14.5.
In Class A, Eveleth-Gilbert finished fifth followed by Mesabi East in 15th and Duluth Marshall in 17th. Danny Radtke of Mesabi East was sixth overall in 16:51.9 and Eveleth-Gilbert’s Reed Melicher finished 10th. Connor Schank of Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted won in 16:22.
GIRLS
EAST FINISHES FOURTH
East placed fourth in the Class AAAA 4K race and freshman Kelly Canavan was 11th in 15:20.4. Annie Frisbie of River Falls won in 14:15.6.
Hibbing was the top area finisher in Class AAA in 13th, followed by Cloquet in 22nd. The Lumberjacks’ Anja Maijala finished third in 14:56 and Hibbing’s Emily Tromp was sixth in 15:10.1. Karly Ackley of Grand Forks Central won the race in a time of 14:24.6.
Esko took 12th place in Class AA, followed by Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin in 14th, Moose Lake-Willow River in 15th and Cook County-Two Harbors in 18th. Esko senior Kailee Kaminski finished third in 15:22.4, followed by GNK’s Ellyssa Peterson in fourth. Alaysia Freetly of Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd won in 15:13.2.
South Ridge finished fifth in Class A, followed by Mesabi East (ninth), Carlton (16th), Eveleth-Gilbert (21st) and Duluth Marshall (23rd). Gracelynn Otis of South Ridge was the top area finisher in 16:01.8. Theresa Mueller of Trinity River Ridge won in 14:59.5.
