Prep report: Hermantown clinches LSC hockey title

Jeff Paczynski scored two of Hermantown's six first-period goals as the host Hawks defeated Duluth Central 9-1 on Tuesday to clinch the Lake Superior Conference boys hockey title outright.

Branden Perrault also scored two goals for the sixth-ranked Hawks (21-3, 8-0).

Duluth East 8, Hastings 1

Max Tardy and Joe Arbour each scored two goals to lead the Greyhounds to the win at Heritage Arena.

Tardy scored his 26th and 27th goals as East (20-3-1) won its ninth straight game.

Sam Rendle scored a short-handed goal with 1:17 remaining in the third period as the Thunderhawks rallied to tie the Hunters (13-11-1).

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 4, Forest Lake 2

Jordan Thompson made 27 saves as the visiting Lumberjacks (5-18-2) won the nonconference game to snap an 11-game winless streak.

Virginia-MIB 7, Hibbing 1

Travis Eddy scored two goals and Will Lustig stopped 24 shots as Virginia-Mountain Iron-Buhl won its ninth straight game to wrap up the Iron Range Conference title at Miners Memorial Building.

Cloquet 72, Esko 44

Chad Calcaterra scored 32 points and the host Lumberjacks sprinted to a 22-point halftime lead to win the nonconference game.

Annabel Morrisroe scored a game-high 17 points and Brianna Henagin added 14 as the Lumberjacks earned a share of the LSC title with the win at Central.

Ashland 63, Proctor 41

Caitie Zepczyk scored 26 points as the host Oredockers (15-4, 7-1) earned a share of their first title in any conference since the 1980s by beating the Rails.

Duluth Denfeld 62, Duluth Marshall 39

The visiting Hunters stormed to a 17-point lead at halftime and cruised to the LSC win behind 15 points from Emily Monson.
