Prep report: Hermantown boys avenge basketball loss to East

The Hawks, winners of four straight, opened up a 42-28 halftime lead. Bich, who also grabbed his 500th career rebound Friday, led all scorers, while teammates Sam Mesedahl and Dalton Everett added 13 points apiece.

East, which defeated Hermantown 69-65 on Jan. 8, received a team-high 18 points from Noah Winesett.

Superior 76, Cloquet 56

Mason Ackley netted 25 points, Xavier Patterson finished with 22, and the Spartans won the Lake Superior Conference contest at home.

Esko 54, Cromwell-Wright 44

The Cardinals had their winning streak stopped at six games in Esko, where the Eskomos built a 39-23 lead at the break en route to the Polar League victory.

Trevor Spindler scored 20 points for Esko.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hermantown 70, Duluth East 46

A strong second half, in which the Hawks outscored the Greyhounds 43-26, resulted in a home win for Hermantown.

Ava Asgaard and Elly Schmitz totaled 25 and 19 points, respectively, to lift the Hawks to their third straight win and fifth in six games.

The 13th-ranked Greyhounds fell for the third time in four games as goaltender Cade Kujawski turned away all 19 shots he faced for the Lakers.

Nate Johnson's goal 11:43 into the third period helped the 13th-ranked Hunters tie the fourth-ranked Prowlers in Thief River Falls.
