DULUTH — Kaden Nelson, who played the first two seasons of his prep career for Duluth East, had two goals and two assists against them on Thursday, as Grand Rapids downed the Greyhounds 6-2 in Lake Superior Conference boys hockey at the IRA Civic Center.
Rapids scored three times in the first period before Nelson had their last two goals.
Ren Morque and Garett Drotts both had a goal and two assists for the Thunderhawks (10-3).
East falls to 2-9-1.
Duluth Denfeld 3, Superior 2 (OT)
Brady McGinn’s shot went in off the iron as Denfeld grabbed the overtime victory at Wessman Arena.

Andrew Rude scored a pair of goals for the Spartans (4-6-1), including the tying tally 41 seconds into the third period.
Connor McClure had a goal and assist for Denfeld (10-3).
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 3, Brainerd 2
The Lumberjacks snapped a three-game losing skid behind a two-goal night from Patrick Dunaiski on Thursday at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton goaltender Kyle Abrahamson earned the win in net with 18 saves.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Cloquet 66, Esko 61
Maddie Young had 21 points as the Lumberjacks held on for the home win.
Alexa Snesrud added 11 points and Kiley Issendorf and Quinn Danielson chipped in nine points apiece for Cloquet (9-3), which held off the Eskomos by making 19 of 25 free throws.
Jayden Karppinen led all scorers with 23 points to lead Esko (7-5) while Aila Gabel (16 points) and Kyra Johnson (11) also scored in double figures.
Cloquet will next be in action again at 7:15 Friday, Jan. 7, when the Lumberjacks take on Crosby-Ironton (7-3) Cloquet Middle School.

Hermantown 63, Proctor 55
Avery Farrell scored 19 points as the Hawks used a big second half to down the Rails in Lake Superior Conference action from Hermantown.
Liv Birkeland and Lauryn Biondi added 16 points apiece for the Hawks (4-7), who broke from a 27-27 halftime tie by outscoring the Rails 36-28 the rest of the way.
Payton Rodberg had 19 points and Hope Carlson chipped in 13 points for Proctor (8-3).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Duluth Marshall 81, Proctor 74
Jasper Timm scored 27 points to top 1,000 career points in leading the host Hilltoppers to the Lake Superior Conference victory.
Brooks Johnson added 19 points, Mason Boos and Alex Olson scored 12 points apiece and Ben Bergeron chipped in nine points for Marshall.
Kolbin Carter had a game-high 28 points to lead the Rails while Josh Synott (19 points), Ty Nyberg (12) and Colin Aho (12) also reached double figures in scoring.
