Braden Holcomb netted a hat trick and goaltender Wyatt Pilkenton made 18 saves in sixth-ranked Grand Rapids’ 5-1 high school boys hockey win at Roseau on Friday night.
The Thunderhawks led 2-0 before Holcomb recorded his hat trick and the team continued its stingy defense that has allowed only three goals this season in improving to 6-0.

Kaden Nelson scored into an empty net with 15 seconds to play to secure the Greyhounds’ win at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center.
Grant Winkler, Zarley Ziemski and Dylan Gray also scored for East (4-1-1), while freshman goaltender Dane Callaway stopped 17 shots.

Eveleth-Gilbert’s Andrew Torrel made 41 saves and his counterpart, Hibbing-Chisholm’s Brayden Boyer, turned aside all 36 shots in a goaltenders’ duel in an Iron Range Conference game at Hibbing.

Robert Powell and Kell Piggott scored two goals apiece as the Spartans rolled to victory in the first round of the Wisconsin Division 2 playoffs at Spooner Civic Center.
Senior goalie Jamin Durfee only had to stop seven shots to notch his fourth shutout of the season and third in the past four games for the second-seeded Spartans (8-5).
The Spartans will host third-seeded New Richmond, an 11-0 winner Friday over Medford, in the next round at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Spooner.
