The first game of Minnesota’s high school football season got off to a slow start, but Virginia eventually found its groove in a 29-6 “zero week” victory at International Falls.

Junior quarterback Jack Zupetz connected on touchdown passes to Nathan Fink and Ethan Youso as the Blue Devils built a 22-0 lead.

Virginia hosts Mesabi East next week, while the Broncos are at Proctor to help the Rails break in their new artificial turf at Terry Egerdahl Memorial Field.

Oddly, Virginia and International Falls will meet again in the regular-season finale, Oct. 18 back in International Falls.
