Duluth East sophomore phenom Aili Hietala didn't drop a game in winning three singles matches at the Section 7AA North Subsection high school girls tennis tournament at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center on Tuesday.
Hietala swept 6-0, 6-0 over North Branch's Becca Perales, Duluth Denfeld's Kaitlynn MacMillan and Forest Lake's Elizabeth Valley to earn a spot in the section semifinals.
East teammate Lauren Aturaliya won the other singles semifinal.
Hibbing's doubles duos of Maddie and Claire Rewertz and Allie Bussey and Maddy Warner also advanced to the section semifinals.

Twelve Greyhounds scored goals in the Section 7AA quarterfinal rout at Ordean Stadium.
Will Francis and Seth Hoffman each had a goal and two assists while Joey Sertich had a goal and three assists for top-ranked East (15-0-2), which will host Forest Lake in Thursday's semifinals.

The visiting Greyhounds upended the Fighting Saints to earn a berth opposite top-seeded Andover in the Section 7AA semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Tigers' Smith finishes 7th

Northwestern's Kiernan Smith shot an 87 Tuesday to finish seventh at the Wisconsin Division 2 state tournament at University Ridge in Madison.
Smith finished the two-day event with a score of 166. She was in fourth place after Monday's opening-round 79.
Clair Phakamad of Xavier was medalist with an 8-over par 152.
As a team, the Tigers finished sixth of six teams with a score of 878. Madison Edgewood won the team title with a 659.
