Prep report: Dushkin, Walsh lead CEC to hockey win

Lumberjacks down VMIB behind hat trick, solid goaltending.

Logan Dushkin netted two power-play goals and one shorthanded to lead Cloquet-Esko-Carlton to a 5-1 victory over Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday night at Miners Memorial Building in Virginia.

CEC goaltender Jacob Walsh saved 24 shots and lost his shutout when Ryan Manninen scored with 10 seconds to play.

Hibbing-Chisholm 2, Int’l Falls 0

A.J. Lehman and Ethan Lund scored third-period goals and Brayden Boyer stopped all 20 shots to lead the host Bluejackets to the Iron Range Conference victory.


Hibbing 81, Nashwauk-Keewatin 47

Ayden McDonald led four players in double figures with 23 points as the host Bluejackets won the battle of unbeaten teams.

Superior 72, Proctor 40

Draden Jensen made five 3-pointers en route to a 20-point performance in the Lake Superior Conference win at Proctor.


Duluth Marshall 79, South Shore 67

Jasper Timm scored 27 points and hit four of the Hilltoppers’ 12 3-pointers in the nonconference home win.

South Shore’s Koy Nelson scored 41 points and made eight 3-pointers.

Two Harbors 59, Cromwell-Wright 45

Trent Gomez’s 20 points keyed the Agates’ Polar League victory at Cromwell.


Grand Rapids 58, Duluth East 51

The host Thunderhawks used a balanced offense, led by Taryn Hamling’s 17 points, to overcome Ashlynne Guenther’s 30-point outing to beat the Greyhounds.

Proctor 56, Cloquet 54

Payton Rodberg scored 23 points and the visiting Rails edged the Lumberjacks in the LSC contest.

Hermantown 64, Hibbing 31

Elly Schmitz scored 22 points and Hawks teammate Liv Birkeland added 17 — each hitting four 3-pointers — in the nonconference win at Hibbing.

South Ridge 89, Wrenshall 28

Adella Olesiak scored 28 points and made five 3-pointers and the host Panthers outscored the Wrens by 30 points in each half to win the Polar League game.
