PREP REPORT: Duluth Marshall's Carlson tosses a no-hitter, 18Ks against Eveleth-Gilbert

It was Carlson's first no-hitter of the season and third of her career. Carlson, who yielded one walk, also went 2-for-4 with a run. Phoebe Pearson added three hits and a run and Elizabeth Busche had two hits and two runs for the Hilltoppers (8-10).

BASEBALL
SUPERIOR 4, CLOQUET 2
Dylan Ramage scattered four hits and had three strikeouts to lead the Spartans to the championship at the Mike Bugliosi Wood Bat Classic in Hibbing.

Al Meehan had three hits and two RBIs and Rob Dembroski added two hits and a run for Superior (8-8), which beat Thief River Falls 10-1 in an earlier game.

BEMIDJI 9-1, DULUTH EAST 1-9
The Greyhounds earned a split and won the two-day tournament in Bemidji, Minn., by going 2-1.

Max Tardy led the way in East's victory, allowing three hits in six innings and going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jon Tisak and Tanner Murray added two hits apiece for the Greyhounds (12-5).

TENNIS
VIRGINIA DOWNS MARSHALL
Virginia won three of four singles points Saturday afternoon on the way to beating defending champion Duluth Marshall 5-2 for the Section 7A high school boys team title at the Quad Cities Tennis For All indoor facility in Virginia.

Virginia, ranked No. 6, faces the Section 2 champion in the Minnesota Class A quarterfinals June 2 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Winning in singles for Virginia were senior Anthony Buccanero at No. 1, junior Jordan Krebsbach at No. 2 and ninth-grader Blair Seitz at No. 4.

Marshall points were from ninth-grader Joey Kronzer at No. 3 singles, and senior Ethan Lang and sophomore Matt Goldschmidt at No. 1 doubles. Four of seven matches went to three sets.

In the morning semifinals. Virginia eliminated Eveleth-Gilbert 5-2 and Marshall beat No. 9 Pine City 6-1.
