Prep report: Duluth Marshall boys rally late to tie Duluth East in soccer

Duluth Marshall’s Ethan Fairbanks scored with just over two minutes to play and the Hilltoppers and Duluth East played two scoreless overtime periods to end Tuesday night’s high school boys soccer game in a 2-2 tie at Ordean Stadium.
Nate Sepp made 12 saves for Marshall to preserve the draw, while Hugh VanScoy stopped five shots in goal for East.
Hermantown 7, Grand Rapids 0 Siji Gonzalez scored three goals and added three assists, while Mason Moris scored twice and assisted on two of Gonzalez’s goals in the Hawks’ nonconference home rout.
Hermantown improved to 6-1-2 overall.
Duluth Denfeld 3, Hibbing 1 Marques Jones’ two goals paced the Hunters to the nonconference win at Public Schools Stadium.
Proctor 6, Mesabi East Area 1 Bryan Wines netted a hat trick in the second half to lead the Rails to the nonconference home rout.
Girls soccer Duluth Marshall 3, Cloquet-Carlton 1 Hannah Carpenter, Alli McKenna and Kelly Alworth scored goals and Anna Thickens made 14 saves in the Hilltoppers’ Lake Superior Conference home victory.
Hermantown 4, Grand Rapids 0 Maddy Danelski’s two goals were part of a 22-shot offensive effort for the host Hawks in the nonconference game.
Volleyball Virginia 3, Esko 2 Lexi Ahrens’ 31-kill, four-block performance and Emily Pluskwik’s 15 kills helped the host Blue Devils top the Eskomos in nonconference action.

The host Hunters won the final three games handily to overcome a 25-8 opening-game loss in the LSC contest.
Superior 3, Duluth Marshall 1 Lily Kline posted 20 kills to lead the host Spartans to the four-game LSC win.

Willow River in nonconference action.
