Brendan Baker and Ian Mageau scored third-period goals to give Duluth East a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Bemidji in a high school boys hockey game Thursday night at Heritage Center.
Goaltender Lukan Hanson made 14 saves for the 11th-ranked Greyhounds, allowing only Brady Tatro’s goal midway through the second period.
Matt Fitzgerald stopped 23 shots for No. 19 Bemidji.

North Shore 6, Ashland 4
Easton Best scored two goals and Chad Nordean had a five-point game with one goal and five assists in the Storm’s win at Ashland.

Rose Lundquist netted the game-winning goal in the first minute of the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie in the nonconference game at Cloquet.
Lumberjacks goalie Erin Genereau made 26 saves in outdueling the Bluejackets’ Abby Edstrom (25 saves).
Superior 6, North Shore 0
Alee Milinkovich-Gray netted a hat trick and Autumn Siers totaled 32 saves in the nonconference shutout in Silver Bay.

Boys basketball
Esko 67, International Falls 41
Quinn Fischer and Adam Trapp scored 18 points apiece to pace the Eskomos to the nonconference home victory.

South Ridge 71, Mesabi East 69
The Panthers held off the Giants and Dayton Cromley’s 29-point effort to win at Culver.

Zenith City Classic on tap for weekend
The Zenith City Classic returns to Duluth East today.
Hermantown and Osseo kick things off at 6 p.m., with East and Bloomington Jefferson to follow. On Saturday, the Greyhounds and Hawks swap opponents, starting at 12:30 p.m. with the Hermantown-Bloomington Jefferson game.
Of note, Osseo entered last year’s Class AAAA state tournament with a perfect 29-0 record before going 1-2 to settle for fourth place. The Orioles are ranked ninth heading into their season opener today.

Heaven Hamling scored 17 points on five 3-pointers as the Thunderhawks won at Cloquet.
Carmen Foss led the Lumberjacks with 20 points.
