Duluth East junior Miles Rohrbaugh placed seventh Thursday night in the Class AA 1-meter diving semifinals, qualifying for Saturday's final round at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Rohrbaugh, in his third boys swimming state tournament, totaled 267.1 points and remains in the mix for a top-five finish. Hastings junior Vova Tipler is the runaway leader with 345.6 points.
In Class A, Grand Rapids senior Wil Kangas-Olson was eighth in the 1-meter semifinals to qualify for Saturday's finals. Kangas-Olson totaled 236.7 points.

Celia Olesiak scored 27 points and South Ridge overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to beat Silver Bay 62-55 in overtime Thursday night in a Section 7A high school girls basketball first-round game at Esko.
Jocelyn Russell netted 32 points in a losing cause for the Mariners.
The Panthers move on to face Cook County, an 87-17 winner over Fond du Lac Ojibwe, in Saturday's quarterfinals in Hibbing.

Jenna Reed scored 20 points and surpassed 1,000 for her career in the Bulldogs' 7A first-round win in Hermantown.
Carlton will play Floodwood, a 50-33 winner over Hill City, in the next round.

Grand Rapids finishes 6th
Grand Rapids won one of three matches to place sixth in the Class AA state team tournament at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
The Thunderhawks lost 47-16 to Simley in a quarterfinal match before edging Totino-Grace 37-31 in the consolation round.
Brandon Frisby won both of his matches at 170 pounds before defaulting due to injury in a 60-3 loss to Perham in the fifth-place match.
