Prep report: DeWall sets mark in Proctor girls basketball win

Lexie DeWall scored 32 points to lead Proctor to an 85-61 victory over Mesabi East in a Section 7AA high school girls basketball first-round game Tuesday night at Proctor, and in the process became the Rails' all-time scoring leader.

DeWall has 1,247 points to surpass the previous mark of 1,229 set by Bob Laney, who held the record for 51 years.
Krista Mottonen added 20 points for Proctor (9-18), which faces International Falls, a 99-37 winner over Greenway, in Saturday’s quarterfinals at Romano Gym.
Barnum 60, Aitkin 47
Emily Miletich scored 31 points and Cheyanne Johnson added 20 to lead the host Bombers to the 7AA first-round win.
Barnum meets Esko, a 72-22 winner over Hinckley-Finlayson behind Judy Wagemaker’s 18 points, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Superior’s Sziron heading
to state for a third time
Superior senior Giselle Sziron will be making her third trip to the Wisconsin state gymnastics meet after qualifying in four events at the Stevens Point sectional meet Saturday.
Sziron tied for second on floor and third on balance beam, placed fourth in the all-around standings and took fifth on uneven bars.
The state meet is Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
As a team, the Spartan gymnasts placed sixth at the sectional meet. Superior’s score of 121.700 was its highest of the year.
