Prep report: Denfeld edges Grand Rapids in baseball

Hunters rally to top Thunderhawks in eight innings.

Owen Hilderman singled in Andy Larson in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Duluth Denfeld a 4-3 victory over Grand Rapids in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game Thursday at Wade Stadium.

Dane Dzuck doubled in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh for the Hunters (2-0) to force extra innings.

Kodi Miller had a two-run triple in Grand Rapids’ season opener.

Esko 15, Virginia 3

Cale Haugen hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the visiting Eskomos to the nonconference win.

South Ridge 5, MLWR 0

Jaxson Bennett allowed no hits and struck out 11 in four innings as the Panthers won the Polar League game.


Moose Lake-Willow River totaled only one hit off three South Ridge pitchers.

Hibbing 12, Duluth Marshall 10

The Bluejackets rallied from four runs down in the top of the seventh to force extra innings and then won the nonconference game with two inside-the-park home runs in the 11th inning Wednesday night at Wade Stadium.

Each team scored in the ninth inning to tie the score at 10 before Hibbing evened its record at 1-1 with two runs in the 11th.
