Prep report: Cromwell, Mountain Iron-Buhl reach Section 7A girls basketball final

Cromwell used a 17-4 run in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and then outscored Cherry 12-9 in overtime to win 73-70 in a Section 7A high school girls basketball semifinal Wednesday night at Hibbing Memorial Arena.

Bailey Gronner scored 18 points for the Cardinals (26-2), who advance to play Mountain Iron- Buhl in Friday’s championship game at Hibbing.
Joely Roberts paced the Tigers (23-4) with 18 points and Alexis Kudis added 15.

The Rangers stormed to a 45-16 halftime lead and cruised to victory in the opening 7A semifinal in Hibbing.
Chelsea Mason scored 22 points and Mary Burke added 15 as third-ranked MIB (27-2) booked a place in Friday’s final against Cromwell.

Jordan Fralich scored two of Duluth’s six second-period goals Wednesday at IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids and his Duluth Marshall teammate, Cam McClure, was named most valuable player of the St. Luke’s Orthopedics & Sports Medicine High School All-Star Hockey Series.
Cody Budisalovich (Duluth Denfeld), Koby Bender (Cloquet-Esko-Carlton), Tyler Nystrom (Superior) and Brian Bunten (Duluth East) also scored in the second period. Nick Altmann of Duluth East tacked on another goal in the third, while Gunnar Howg (Duluth East) and Alex Murray (Duluth Marshall) combined to save all 20 shots by the Iron Range All-Stars.
