Scott Lieser and Patrick Hudalla each hit home runs and combined for seven runs batted in as Browerville-Eagle Valley topped Chisholm 9-2 on Friday to earn fifth place in the Minnesota Class A high school baseball state tournament in Chaska.
Eighth-grade starting pitcher Mitch Heid and reliever Austin Host combined to hold the Bluestreaks (20-5) to three hits, including back-to-back doubles by Taylor Skoglund and Spencer Peratalo that scored a run in the third inning.
The Broncos (17-12) started quickly on a 76-degree sunny day as Hudalla drove a Skoglund pitch into left field with two on and one out in the top of the first. Lieser singled in two runs the following inning for a 5-0 lead.
A single, an error and a fielder's choice stretched the Broncos' lead to 7-1 in the third inning before Lieser homered to left field off Peratalo in the fifth for the final runs.

Laura Wacek posted a four-save shutout and three players scored as the Crusaders spoiled the Oredockers' unbeaten season and their first appearance at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association girls soccer state tournament at Uihlein Park in Milwaukee.
Devon Richards rolled a Hannah Elfman pass into the net for the first goal at 12:43, Beth Schramka blasted home a free kick in the 68th minute and Leigh Finger finished the scoring by walking in on an open goal in the final minute.
Edgewood (18-4-3) advances to play Waukesha Catholic Memorial (21-2-1), a 1-0 winner over Green Bay Notre Dame in the other semifinal, for the championship at noon today. Those teams met for the 2006 title, won 1-0 by Catholic Memorial.
Maria Langholz stopped three shots for Ashland (25-1-1).
