CHAMPLIN, Minn. -- Senior winger Bo Gronseth flipped in a backhand shot for the only goal of the first period to give Hermantown a 1-0 lead over St. Cloud Cathedral in tonight's Section 5A high school boys hockey championship game at the Champlin Ice Forum.

Gronseth's linemate, Chris Benson, had an excellent scoring chance earlier in the period, but his breakaway attempt was stopped by goaltender Joshua Robak.

Hermantown goalie Adam Smith, who didn't play in the Crusaders' overtime win earlier this season, stopped all nine shots he faced.

The winner advances to next week's Class A state tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
