Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has broken his silence on his resisting arrest charge in Houston over the weekend, tweeting a quote from former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to get his point across .
"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on," Peterson said Sunday from his official @AdrianPeterson account, marking a "WC" at the end of the tweet.
Peterson added: "Thank you for waiting for the facts. Truth will surface."
Peterson was arrested at a downtown Houston nightclub early Saturday after allegedly shoving and yelling at an off-duty police officer.
Peterson, 27, was released from the Houston Police Department central jail on $1,000 bond at around 10:15 a.m. An HPD spokesman said Peterson was uncooperative when asked to leave the club shortly after 2 a.m. and "assumed a violent stance" when an officer tried to arrest Peterson after being pushed.

Video of the arrest has emerged, but it reveals little about why the Vikings running back was handcuffed.
TMZ.com has a 35-second clip that briefly shows Peterson in handcuffs as bouncers from the Bayou Live! area of downtown usher people out of a club.

A club manager told TMZ.com that Peterson was "very drunk" and looked "scary" when confronting police, but was apologetic once in handcuffs.
Attempts to reach Peterson have been unsuccessful. Resisting arrest is considered a Class A misdemeanor in Texas.
