John Shuster and Cory Christensen opened play in the Mixed Doubles World Championship with an easy 10-1 win over Poland on Saturday in Stavanger, Norway.

The Duluth Curling Club tandem scored six points in the first three ends against Bartosz Dzikowski and Zuzanna Rybicka and ended the match after six of the scheduled eight ends.

The U.S. faces Latvia on Sunday.

• The U.S. women lost 8-6 to Sweden on the opening day of the World Senior Championships, also at Stavanger.

Margie Smith's American rink, which includes Norma O'Leary of Silver Bay, led two-time Olympic champion Anette Norberg 4-0 after four ends before giving up a four-spot in the fifth. Sweden overcame a 6-4 deficit by scoring twice in each of the seventh and eighth ends.

Team USA faces Australia on Sunday.
