College track and field: UMD's Kohlwey tops NSIC awards
Minnesota Duluth senior Danielle Kohlwey was selected NSIC women's indoor track athlete of the year, it was announced Wednesday.
Kohlwey, a 2018 NCAA Division II indoor All-American, captured a pair of events at last weekend's NSIC indoor meet, taking first in the 200-meter dash (in a conference and school-record time of 24.51 second) and the 60 hurdles (8.30) for the second straight year. She also ran a sub-59.00 in the 1,600 relay.
Kohlwey and Haleigh Reindl qualified for next week's NCAA Division II meet in Pittsburg, Kan.
• Wisconsin-Superior and St. Scholastica dominated the UMAC men's indoor all-conference awards.
Yellowjackets coach Glen Drexler was named coach of the year, while senior C.J. Pillrath was named field athlete of the UMAC meet. Teammates Isaiah Arntson, Matt Carlson, Andre Couture, Cody Fernandez, Jonny Kasper, Lennon Shimon, Jake Weston, Fauston Wirtz and Scott Young also earned all-conference honors for the league champs.
The Saints' Sam Anderson, Donovan Blatz, Isaac Boedigheimer, Frank Cerar (top scoring athlete of the UMAC meet), Easton Foss Malcolm Lumsden and Cam Pearson also were named to the team.
• St. Scholastica's Todd Bouchie was named UMAC women's coach of the year, while the Saints' Natalie St. Marie and UWS' Maria Mazo were named co-field athletes of the meet.
The Saints' Liana Blomgren, Lexi Erickson, Jacqueline Kaplan, Anika Kling, Aria Plewa, Elizabeth Poskie and Maria West joined St. Marie on the all-conference team.
The Yellowjackets' Carson Haase, Haruka Hamanaka, Alexys Lewis, Kelli Praska, Valerie Rowe, Mikaela Shepard and LeAnn Torgerson joined Mazo on the all-conference team.
