Prep report: Two Harbors' Ruberg scores 57 in win

Jayden Ruberg poured in a school-record 57 points to lead Two Harbors over visiting Carlton 89-80 in a Polar League boys basketball game Friday night.

Ruberg, a senior, scored 15 of his points from beyond the arc while breaking Scott MacDonald's Agates record of 54 points. MacDonald, a 1971 Two Harbors graduate, went on to play three years of basketball at West Virginia, then a season of football for the Mountaineers, who were coached at the time by legendary Bobby Bowden.

Cromwell-Wright 70, South Ridge 25

Micah Pocernich and Jaden Gronner buried five 3-pointers apiece to lead the Cardinals to a comfortable Polar League win in Culver.


Proctor 69, Cherry 48

A tight nonconference game turned into a rout in Proctor, where the Rails pulled away from a one-point halftime lead.

Sam Pogatchnik totaled 23 points for Proctor, which hosts another talented Class A team, Mountain Iron-Buhl, on Tuesday.

Grand Rapids 70, East Grand Forks 61

The host Thunderhawks won their fourth straight behind 21 points from Mya Roberts and 20 from Hannah DeMars.


Blaine 3, Proctor-Hermantown 1

The Mirage, ranked fourth in Class A, had their unbeaten streak stopped at five games against the host Bengals.

Alyssa Watkins scored the night's first goal to give Proctor-Hermantown a lead, but that was it for the visitors.
