Ryan Redington of Skagway, Alaska, won his third consecutive Gunflint Mail Run dog-sled race on Sunday.

The Cook County race includes a 12-dog, 100-mile race stretched over two days, as well as an eight-dog, 65-mile race. Redington finished with a time of 8 hours, 26 minutes and 35 seconds. Martha Schouweiler of Irma, Wis., won the eight-dog race in 5:39:10.

The course starts and ends at Trail Center Lodge on Poplar Lake, about 30 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais.

"The weather was fantastic for the spectators," race director Sarah Hamilton of Trail Center Lodge said in a news release. "The dogs would have preferred it colder, but they did great." Temperatures in Cook County this weekend generally were in the low 30s.

The Gunflint Mail Run name dates to a race held in the 1970s; it was revived in 2012 after the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon was canceled that year because of poor snow conditions. This year's Beargrease is set for Jan. 27-29.
