Prep report: Hermantown boys rally past Proctor
Peter Soumis' 25 points and a huge second half powered host Hermantown to a 72-56 Lake Superior Conference boys basketball victory over Proctor on Thursday night.
The Hawks, who improved to 3-0, trailed 36-32 at the break before outscoring the Rails 40-20 the rest of the way. Soumis made five 3-pointers, as did teammate Connor Bich, who finished with 23 points.
Quincy Clark paced Proctor with 17 points.
Superior 93, Duluth Denfeld 68
Mason Ackley (26 points), Xavier Patterson (23) and Beau Severson (18) powered the Spartans' high-octane offense in a home LSC win.
Joe Cvancara had 23 points for the Hunters.
Grand Rapids 60, Cloquet 51
Hannah DeMars buried a 3-pointer on the first shot of the game to notch her 1,000th career point, and the senior finished with a game-high 23 as the Thunderhawks won in Cloquet.
Duluth East 59, Rocori 57
The Greyhounds overcame a halftime deficit to win on the road.
East's Macy Hermanson led all scorers with 17 points. Macey DeRosier chipped in 14 for the Greyhounds (2-2), who matched their win total from 2017-18.
Cromwell-Wright 82, McGregor 36
Cousins Taya and Shaily Hakamaki tallied 27 points apiece as the Cardinals won the Polar League game in Cromwell.
Duluth East 4, Bemidji 1
Brendan Baker scored two goals and Frederick Paine had a pair of assists in the Greyhounds' win at Heritage Center, the 625th of East coach Mike Randolph's career.
Greyhounds goalie Konrad Kausch stopped 16 of 17 shots and also assisted on Finn Hoops' second-period goal.

In a battle of Class A top-20 teams, Addy Edstrom turned in a 34-save shutout to make Sydney Haben's first-period goal stand as the 16th-ranked Bluejackets defeated the 15th-ranked Lumberjacks in Cloquet.
