Snocross: Lemieux scores birthday win at Spirit Mountain
Lincoln Lemieux celebrated his 25th birthday in style Sunday by winning the Pro Open Final during the annual Amsoil Snocross National at Spirit Mountain in Duluth.
The victory in the final race of the weekend was the second in Duluth for the Ski Doo rider out of Vermont. Lemieux picked up his first win at Spirit Mountain in 2016.
Lemieux almost scored his second career win in Duluth on Saturday, leading the first 15 laps of the Pro Open Final before losing out to fellow Ski Doo rider Elias Ishoel of Norway. Ishoel missed the races at Spirit Mountain a year ago rehabbing a leg injury.
Lemieux was the top qualifier for Saturday's final, but Ishoel chased him down for the win on lap 15. Lemieux finished second on Saturday and Tim Tremblay, a Ski Doo rider from Quebec, took third.
"There were a lot of ice edges out there," said Lemieux in a release about the course on Sunday. "It was 40-degrees on Friday and 15-degrees (Sunday), and the groomers did the best they could, but I found a few of them, and almost fell off a few times. But, I actually breathed today. Last night, I didn't at all."
Lemieux beat Polaris rider Kody Kamm of Wisconsin by seven seconds on Sunday as Ishoel finished third.
