Prep report: MIB calms the Storm in Nine-Man quarterfinals
Jericho Peterson scored in the first overtime and Mountain Iron-Buhl's defense stuffed Stephen-Argyle on its extra possession to stun the Storm 28-20 in a Nine-Man state tournament quarterfinal game Saturday night at Chet Anderson Stadium in Bemidji, Minn.
The Rangers (10-2) advance to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, where they will play Mountain Lake Area in a semifinal at 9 a.m. Friday.
MIB trailed 14-0 after one quarter against longtime power Stephen-Argyle (11-1).
But quarterback Joe Buffetta started the comeback in the second quarter by running 82 yards for a touchdown and later threw a go-ahead 10-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Benkusky.
Stephen-Argyle forced OT on Hunter Yutrzenka's 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Four records fall in 7A meet
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton senior Makayla Suominen swam to a pair of first-place finishes and four Section 7A records were set in Saturday's meet at Lincoln Park Middle School in Duluth.
Suominen sped to victory in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.51 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 51.62. She is expected to contend for Class A titles at this week's state meet in Minneapolis.
Mesabi East set a section record in the first event, the 200 medley relay, en route to claiming the overall team title with 446 points.
Other section marks were set by Two Harbors' Jada Larson in the 100 butterfly (1:00.48); Virginia's Lauryn Devich in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.43); and by Two Harbors in the 400 freestyle relay (3:40.72). The Agates' Kate Thomasen, a member of that relay, was runner-up to Suominen in both freestyles as well as on the runner-up 200 freestyle relay squad to qualify for the state meet in four events.
Carlton falls in consolations
Claudia Stahlke totaled 15 kills to lead Mayer Lutheran to a 3-1 win over Carlton in the Class A fifth-place match at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Abby Mickle and Taylor Nelson each had 14 kills for the Bulldogs (29-4) in the 25-18, 25-20, 17-25, 25-18 defeat.
Carlton's Brynne Mickle led all setters with 34 assists.
