The 38th installment of the Minnesota Voyageur 50 Mile Trail Ultramarathon will take on a different twist Saturday as portions of the course have been altered.
Due to Minnesota Power work on the powerlines section, the course will be re-routed onto the Superior Hiking Trail to connect with Zapp’s Loop. More re-routing will occur along Skyline Parkway.
A total of 350 runners registered for the race, though defending champion and race record-holder Ben Cogger is out injured.
Two-time winner Jake Hegge of Onalaska, Wis., who finished third a year ago, is back as is three-time winner Michael Borst of Slinger, Wis., and elite runner Neal Collick.
Lila Planavsky of La Crosse, Wis., returns to defend her women’s title.
Harry Sloan, who ran the first Voyageur's, also returns as do Glen Hill and Mike Long, each of whom hope to finish for the 20th time.
