Jake Pries hit his third home run in as many games as the Huskies’ offense caught fire in a 14-7 Northwoods League win in St. Cloud on Saturday night.
In the past three games, Pries is hitting .400 with four extra-base hits and six RBIs. Dillon Paulson also hit a home run in consecutive games and had two of the Huskies’ 15 total hits, compared to St. Cloud’s nine.
After batting around and scoring four runs in the fourth inning, Duluth added at least two in each of the next three innings, scoring seven unanswered runs total.
The Huskies’ offense was helped by two wild pitches and two errors by St. Cloud, each of which led to runs. Overall, the Rox committed four errors.
St. Cloud rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth, but Pries scored the go-ahead run with his leadoff homer in the fifth. Paulson went deep in the next at-bat to extend the lead.
The Huskies added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth before Brendan McClary drove in two via a double in the seventh, pushing the cushion to 12-4. St. Cloud scored three runs in the ninth, but its late rally fell short.
Alex Ferguson got the win for Duluth after throwing 1 1 /3 scoreless innings in relief.
The Huskies return to Wade Stadium today for a rematch with St. Cloud at 3:05 p.m.
