MOORHEAD — A surprising 3-1 loss at Dakota Fusion on Wednesday prevented Duluth FC from taking over the lead in the NPSL's North Division standings.
The BlueGreens, who entered the game winners of five straight, appeared poised to take over the top spot while playing a game in hand on the schedule. However, the hosts scored in the 17th minute and again in the 36th to stun Duluth.
The BlueGreens pulled a goal back just before halftime from Jake Starling, but there was no equalizer to be had, and the Fusion made 3-1 in the 69th minute.
Duluth FC (9-2-0) has three games remaining in league play, all of them at Public Schools Stadium. The next one is July 6 vs. La Crosse Aris, but the most important one is likely July 9 vs. Med City FC (9-1-1), which retains the division lead after Wednesday's loss. Duluth FC won their first meeting on Saturday and will likely have to win again to take the top spot.
