Northwoods League: Huskies dominate Express 9-1

The Duluth Huskies maintained their lead atop the Northwoods League Great Plains East second-half standings with a convincing 9-1 victory over the Eau Claire Express on Thursday at Wade Stadium in Duluth.

A cast of five took the mound for the Huskies, holding the Express to the one run in the first and five total hits with nine strikeouts and nine walks. Brock Burton accounted for two of Eau Claire's five hits, producing two doubles.

Max Guzman and Joey Zwak both had a pair of hits for the Huskies, who took control of the night with a five-run third that included hits by Guzman and Zwak. Noah Marcelo also drove in a pair of runs in the third inning with a two-out double.

The Huskies and Express meet again at 6:35 p.m. Friday at Wade Stadium. Duluth plays just two of its last eight games at Wade Stadium after Friday's series finale, hosting Waterloo Aug. 8-9.
