Anglers do not have to turn away from trying to fish through heavy vegetation. You just have to stay on top of it because the fish love these sorts of spots.

“It's like a roof over their underwater world that provides the same thing that we look for in the hot summer days when we're outside and I like to find a nice shade tree to sit under because it's cooler. Well, fish are no different. They're gonna get underneath these pads because it provides shade and cover.”
While traditional frog lures work, the hook-up rate is low. Koel has another option to get down below the surface without snagging your line. Other tips he suggests are a heavier line and rod because you’ll not only be fighting a hooked fish, but also the cover as you boat your catch.
“There’s nothing subtle about this presentation when these fish get on in the slop,” he says. “The first thing they're gonna want to do is bury themselves into that heavy cover. You have to have the power to get them up and out and back to the boat so bulk it up.”
