Nordic skiing: 27th annual Pepsi Challenge on tap this weekend

Friday is the last day to pre-register online.

The 37th annual Pepsi Challenge cross-country ski race is Saturday, March 5, at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

According to Giants Ridge’s director of mountain sports Benji Neff, the Nordic system is “100% open” with a solid foot-plus base of natural snow and in excellent condition.

Race coordinator Deb Maki said the last day to pre-register online is March 4. Price for the 25 and 50 kilometer races is $90, with pre-registered skiers eligible for prize drawings at registration; the youth rate is $70. For more information, go to www.pepsichallengeskirace.com .

The schedule for the Pepsi Challenge, with all mass starts, is 50K/25K classic races, 9 a.m.; 50K freestyle; 9:30 a.m.; 25K freestyle, 9:40 a.m.; 8K, 9:50 a.m.
