Minnesota Duluth forward Katrina Newman on Tuesday was named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team.

Newman, a junior from Barnum, led the Bulldogs with 15.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. Teammate Kaiya Sygulla, a senior point guard from Lakeville, Minn., was named to the all-defensive team.

Former Ashland standout Anika Whiting was named NSIC player of the year after the sophomore forward finished second in the conference in scoring (18 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (53.4 percent), sixth in blocked shots (1.09 bpg) and 12th in rebounding (7.2 rpg) while leading Concordia-St. Paul to the NSIC overall and South Division regular-season championships.
