Jeffrey L. Gunderson has been named director of the University of Minnesota Sea Grant program, the university said Friday.
Gunderson has had three stints as interim director and has been an associate director for
14 years. He has been a professor of fisheries and aquaculture for 30 years. He recently was chosen as the chairman-elect of the national Assembly of Sea Grant Extension Program Leaders.
In the past decade, Gunderson has been involved with developing analysis about and preventing the spread of invasive aquatic species. He also has worked with groups to solve harbor corrosion issues.
The Minnesota Sea Grant is an office of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, located on the UMD campus, that provides research-based education and outreach.
