Have tales of trips past along Northwestern Wisconsin's Namekagon River? You're invited to share them this Friday in Trego.
The National Park Service is hosting its fifth annual Namekagon River Memory Day from 2-5 p.m. Friday at its visitor center on U.S. Highway 63 in Trego. The river is part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.
Organizers want to hear from people with stories and photos they're willing to share -- including anything that can shed light on how places along the river got their names. The information gathered will become part of the historical record on the river.
People interested in learning more about the river's history are welcome to attend, too. In addition, Bob Olson -- son of noted author and environmentalist Sigurd Olson -- will speak about the Uhrenholdt Forest in Sawyer County. Bob Olson recently donated his family's 100-acre Uhrenholdt estate near Seeley to Northland College. He is scheduled to speak about 2 p.m.
