DULUTH — Spirit Mountain will host a Cor PowerSports Cross Country snowmobile series event Saturday and Sunday.

The event will serve as the series finale and host for its year-ending banquet. It will feature a five-mile course routed along the ski hill. Round 7 was March 26 at Whitecap Mountain in Upson, Wisconsin, with Zach Herfindahl earning the sweep, cruising to victory in Pro Open and Pro Factory.

Herfindahl, of Eagle River, Wisconsin, is the points leader in both classes but it’s tight, with only a seven-point lead in Pro Open and an eight-point lead in Pro Factory.

Cor PowerSports has a variety of classes for children as young as 10 to diehard racers in their 60s. The majority of racers ride on the same sleds you can buy.

Racing begins at 9 a.m. both days, with the Pro Open final at 1:45 p.m. Saturday and the Pro Factory final at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

Cor PowerSports is a cross-country snowmobile series based in Somerset, Wisconsin. The 2021-22 season is the 11th season of the series and the second with a pro national series.

In 2015 the series started running ski hill races and has held numerous ski hill events since then but Duluth, which used to host its annual Duluth National Snocross, attracting thousands every Thanksgiving, was at the top of the list, unchecked, until this weekend.
