Moose symposium coming to International Falls

Minnesotans love their moose, but there are fewer of them to love these days. Moose populations have declined in recent years, and scientists are trying to find out why and whether the trend can be stopped.

A symposium called "Moose in a Warming World" is scheduled in International Falls for June 24 to update people on what's happening with moose in Minnesota and Ontario, featuring regional and international experts on climate change and forests, moose populations, diseases and parasites, along with moose research in Voyageurs and Isle Royale national parks.

The event is set for 3 to 8 p.m. at the Backus Community Center, 900 5th St. in International Falls. It's free and open to the public (soup and sandwich dinner available for $12).

It's sponsored by Voyageurs National Park, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, UMD's Natural Resources Research Institute and other agencies. For more information or to RSVP e-mail bri@mndeerhunters.com or moose@nrri.umn.edu , call (218) 327-1103, ext. 12, or go to www.mndeerhunters.com .
