Moline advances at Sectional Qualifying

Dan Moline was one of five players who advanced from the starting field of 79 after winning a playoff at Sectional Qualifying for the 32nd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship on Tuesday at Minnetonka Country Club in Excelsior, Minn.

Jesse Bull of Minneapolis shot a 6-under-par 66 to claim medalist honors, recording two eagles and three birdies to offset a bogey on No. 5. Also advancing were Sammy Schmitz of Apple Valley, Minn., Jordan Hawkinson of Grant, Minn., and Jesse Polk of Farmington, Minn.

Polk and Moline finished regulation at 2-under 70 to tie with Shell Wheeler of North Oaks, Minn., and David Steingart of Edina, Minn., but Wheeler bogeyed the first playoff hole and Steingart bogeyed the second.

The 32nd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held Sept. 8-13 at the Conway Farm Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
