Seimone Augustus hit a jumper with 15.7 seconds left in overtime to lift the Minnesota Lynx to a 98-97 victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday at College Park Arena in Arlington, Texas.
The Wings trailed by 13 points entering the fourth period but rallied in the final eight minutes, tying the game at 86-86 on a 3-pointer by Plenette Pierson at the 2:06 mark.
Augustus answered with a 3-pointer 27 seconds later to put the Lynx back on top, but Dallas tied it again when Odyssey Sims hit three free throws with 6 seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime.
Dallas took the lead in its first possession in overtime on a Skylar Diggins’ jumper, and the Lynx answered with a basket and free throw from Lindsay Whalen to push ahead 92-91. After Maya Moore’s jumper with 2:12 to play staked Minnesota to a three-point advantage, Pierson and Karima Christmas canned back-to-back 3-pointers to give Dallas a 97-94 edge.
Whalen made two free throws with 50.8 seconds to play and Dallas missed its next two shots to set the table for Augustus’ heroics.
Moore scored 20 points, 14 in the first half, to lead Minnesota (19-4), which owns the second-best record in the league behind Los Angeles (20-2).
