Local Alpine skiers heading to Junior Olympics

Nine Northland Alpine skiers will compete in the Junior Olympics in Colorado next month.

Henry Roningen, 16, of Duluth will be among the top 80 U.S. men and 60 U.S. women to compete in the J2 Nationals in Aspen from March 6-13.

Megan Danelski, 13, of Hermantown, Olivia Tusa, 14, of Hermantown, Savannah Stone, 13, of Cross Lake, and Anders Zimmer, 13, of Grand Marais will be participating in the J3 Junior Olympics in Vail from March 5-11.

Madison Danelski, 11, of Hermantown, Jonathan Thickens, 12, of Duluth, Matt Borash, 12, of Hermantown, and JB Stender, 12, of Duluth will participating in the J4 Junior Olympics at Winter Park Resort March 17-21.

Roningen qualified for the J2 nationals during a recent competition in La Crosse, Wis., which was part of the Mid-America Alpine Series.

The J3 and J4 athletes qualified for the Junior Olympics after racing in the central region qualifier at Marquette, Mich., earlier this month.

The athletes train at Spirit Mountain with the Team Duluth Racing Team.

The athletes will compete in the super G, giant slalom, slalom and downhill.
