Legion baseball: Lakeview splits on Day 1 of state tournament

Duluth Lakeview picked up a win and a loss Thursday during Day 1 of the American Legion state baseball tournament, hosted by Cold Spring.

Playing in St. Martin, Lakeview opened with a 5-3 win over Rosetown before falling to Excelsior 12-1 in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.

Lakeview plays an elimination game at 12:30 p.m. Friday against Ham Lake in Cold Spring. The winner will play another elimination game at 6 p.m. Friday against either Eastview or Buffalo.

  • Grand Rapids defeated Duluth East 13-2 Thursday in the District 8 championship to advance to the Minnesota VFW state baseball tournament. Grand Rapids will take on the winner of Forest Lake and Owatonna at 3 p.m. Thursday in Brainerd to open state.
