Gavin Rasmussen scored the lone shootout goal as the Minnesota Wilderness edged the Austin Bruins 4-3 in a North American Hockey League game Sunday night at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet.

Rasmussen, Mitchell Allard and Josh Bohlin gave the Wilderness a 3-0 lead in the first 13:38 of the opening period before the Bruins tied the score on a first-period goal by Alex Trombley and second-period goals by Walter Zacher and Barrett Brooks.

The Bruins missed all three shootout attempts, while Rasmussen connected on the Wilderness’ first attempt.

Goaltender Kaleb Johnson made 26 saves as Minnesota earned its first win since returning from a COVID-19 imposed break of nearly two months. The Wilderness’ six games played are the fewest in the 23-team league and leaves them at the bottom of the Central Division.
